Connecting two hospitals in Somerset
In the health sector, it’s crucial that medical staff have the ability to access and transfer medical data securely and at high speed. However, with increasing demands on the main connectivity network used by hospitals, surgeries and health centres causing it to become congested, many NHS Trusts are having to consider installing additional high speed Internet connections to enable the highest levels of patient care.
KCOM delivered a Leased Line service for Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, providing its staff with fast and secure access to medical records. When the Trust identified a further connectivity need for secure access between Somerset’s largest hospitals, Musgrove Park in Taunton and Yeovil Hospital, KCOM built a Point to Point Leased Line circuit, creating a secure, uncontended, 1Gb direct link between the two hospitals.

The provision of free guest WiFi on a site-wide basis was also a key consideration for Yeovil District Hospital, giving patients and visitors the reassurance of quick, easy communication with family and friends. Months after implementing this service, Yeovil remains one of a small number of hospital trusts nationally to offer this level of care.
