Looking back at Microsoft Future Decoded 2018

Key themes and talking points from the Show floor

Microsoft Future Decoded 2018 took place last week at the London ExCel. The event saw over 10,000 IT and business professionals attending over the course of two days. Digital transformation proved to be a key theme with many discussions and presentations focussing on how to fully leverage the power of the cloud. For the KCOM team, the show presented a great opportunity to speak with attendees from a wide range of industries about how to re-imagine applications using cloud-based technologies.

Discussions on the KCOM stand

Azure, and how to get the best from it, proved to be a popular topic on the KCOM stand. With such a large number of visitors, we spoke to key decision makers at various stages of their cloud journey. Each was keen to understand how to best achieve the scalability, security and reliability that Azure can provide.

With a wealth of expertise and deployment experience, the KCOM team were well positioned to offer advice and guidance supporting all points of the Azure journey. Discussions included Cloud Migration,  Azure Best PracticeApplication Modernisation and Cloud Optimisation.

Presentations from the KCOM team

The KCOM team also presented three well-attended sessions at Microsoft Future Decoded 2018. Head of Propositions Graham Masterson shared insights on Preparing your organisations for data centre modernisation. The session highlighted the cross-organisational impact that must be considered in an era where organisations are increasingly recognising that the cloud can be an enabler for digital transformation and business growth.

Paul Touzel, KCOM Azure Practice Lead and Cloud Solutions Architect Piyush Gupta, presented The five pillars of Azure best practice. This session looked at the importance of implementing best practices and the ongoing impact that early cloud design decisions can have on an organisation.

KCOM Cloud Optimisation Practice Lead, Jeremy Chaplin, joined by Ben Nicholson discussed how, with the right strategy and tools, public cloud opens the doors to a more agile, flexible and scalable environment. Their presentation Destination cloud optimisation also looked at the significant task of tracking and managing computing costs that must also be addressed to drive business success.

Working with Microsoft Azure

Whether we were talking to visitors to the KCOM stand, catching up with partners or speaking in the presentation theatre’s there were some common themes throughout. Perhaps top of this list was the recognition that to get the best from Azure, a DevOps approach and mindset is crucial. Automation, repeatability and monitoring must sit at the heart of the process at all times. A cloud strategy can never be treated as done. However, with the right partner and the right approach, Azure can be used to deliver agility, innovation and scale.
